Calligraph Designer Pinwheel Patchwork Quilt Pattern

Calligraph is a typical Designer Pinwheel quilt based on a four-fold rotation of a tessellated right triangle. Hand-painted and dyed solid color silk dupioni and charmeuse fabrics gave the original quilt a satiny quality with unusual color.

The pattern is for one full-scale tessellated triangle only. Cut and piece the pattern’s patches four times to complete the quilt top. Add seam allowances to all patches. The quilt finishes at 12 1/2″ x 12 1/2″, or you may use the pattern to build a larger quilt from multiple blocks–try reversing the pattern so shapes align.

Dashed lines on the pattern indicate suggested quilting lines in addition to stitch-in-the-ditch used to define each patch in the quilt.

Supplies needed to make this quilt top:

• Optional embellishment: bead, mirror, applique or embroidery patch, for the center
• Fabric scraps
